CAMC and FMC 19 – 23 February 2020, Stoneham, QC

2019/09/20, You should all know by now that FIS racing is coming back to Canada! This was announced via a national email on 12-Feb-19. However, the date has changed slightly to one week later than previously announced and is being expanded to include and partially straddle the Canadian Masters’ Alpine Championships (CMAC), with both events being held in Stoneham, QC!

CMAC will consist of the traditional 4 races; two SGs held on 19-Feb-20 (training day on 18-Feb-20), and the GS and SL held on 20-Feb-20 and 21-Feb-20, respectively. World Cup (WC) points will be awarded for all 4 races and therefore CMAT qualifying races.

The GS and SL on 20/21-Feb-20 are also FMC races, along with the second GS* & SL*, to be held on 22/23-Feb-20*, completing the four FMC races.

* WC points will not be awarded for these two races.

Further details will be provided later this year in the Race Notice.

Racers who do not care about FIS points, can still enter all races with a Canadian Master’s National card. However, this fall when you purchase your racer’s card, we recommend you opt for a FIS Master’s card over a Canadian Master’s National card for a variety of reasons:

• For every FIS Master’s card purchased, the Canadian Alpine Masters receive $10 from ACA, but for every Master’s National card purchased, only $5 is received from ACA. The price of both types of cards is the same or only $10 more (varies depending on province), so it helps the Canadian Alpine Masters when you purchase the FIS Master’s card vs the National card!
• To compete as a FIS Master’s racer at the upcoming  World Winter Masters’ Games (WWMG), being held from 10-19 January 2020, in Austria.
• Note for those between 18 and 30 years old: You must be aged 30 years or older on December 31, 2019 to obtain a FIS Master’s card, but only 18 to obtain a Canadian Master’s National card.

For those unaware, FMC races, garner points and potentially a crystal globe! For more information see the FIS Masters Rules.

Simply put, a minimum of six races is needed to qualify for the globe but good luck with that! You really need at least 12, as your best 12 races count towards the globe. Bag 8 in North America, attend two more FMC races in Europe or elsewhere, (be sure to include the FMC finals in 2020 as double points are always awarded for the finals), and there are your 12+ races! Never too soon to start saving some $ and vacation days!!!
