2024 News

Summer is here in full swing with lots of heat and lots of opportunity to enjoy some dryland training.  Whether it be cycling, running, weights or yoga, it’s an opportunity to rest the ski legs and the ski mind.  An opportunity to shift gears to our summer sport pleasures.  Skiing is a short 5 or 6 months away unless you are headed to any of the summer camps; skiing will be back on our daily agenda before we can blink.  And on that note, we are already starting to fill the 2024 calendar with tentative and firm race dates.

Several of our athletes attended various Masters’ events around the globe this past winter plus 2023 had a fairly full slate of national races topped off by the FMC/CMAC event in February, in Kimberley BC.

2024 World Winter Masters’ Games (WWMG)

FIS World Criterium Masters Alpine Skiing (WCM)

It’s official!!  We are hosting the 2024 FIS World Criterium Masters, in Kimberley BC; mark your calendar for 1-7 March with unofficial SG training on 28-29 February.

The program will include official SG training on 1-Mar-24 with 1 x SG, 1 x GS and 1 x SL for the Criterium, plus an additional FMC GS race.   Each men’s A, men’s B and women’s C groups will have four days of racing and two days off during the event.  The program details are yet to be ironed out but as soon as they are available, they will be posted and distributed.

For those not familiar with Kimberley, you can fly into Calgary airport and drive four hours to Kimberley for the Criterium and then three and a half hours back to Nakiska for Rides of March and finally one hour back to Calgary airport; or you can fly into the Rockies International Airport in Cranbrook which is a 20 minute drive from the Resort.

There are two main hotels at the base of the hill to choose from being Trickle Creek Lodge and Mountain Spirit Resort, however, details on accommodation packages for the Criterium will follow with the event program.

The USA will be hosting their FMC races at Beaver Creek from 23-25 February 2024 and Nakiska is scheduled to host their Rides of March the following weekend 8-10 March 2024.  Lots of racing for everyone and will certainly provide value for everyone to attend.

QC Masters’ Representative

The Committee is very pleased to announce that John Gunn will be taking over from Lewis Heilig as the QC Rep, for the 2024 season.  John started racing as a teenager in Calgary in 1980 and has been skiing in Québec since 1995.

See you all too soon.
